I have never been a fan of teenage series because they all look a like and really there is nothing new you can see in any of them. But, I decided to watch Gossip Girl hoping that I am maybe wrong. And I must admit that Gossip Girl turned out to be much more than I thought it will be. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still bad, but it’s not that bad. I am sure that teenagers will not going to agree with me, so let’s see what the Gossip Girl is all about.

During the series we don’t actually see gossip girl but she is a narrator and voiced by Kristin Bell. She gathers and distributes gossip about basically everybody. Story is about the rich (and spoiled, and not so rich) kids going to Upper East Side high school. And series start when bad girl Serena van der Woodsen returns to the city, and is turned good. Her best friend is Blair Waldorf. There are so many characters that I won’t bother you with everyone of them. Most of them are 100% stereotypes used in these kind of series. Serena is a rich girl that falls in love with poor and good guy that was in love with her for years but she never noticed him before. Blaire is a rich and very spoiled girl that takes whatever she wants. And so on, and so on. Very boring stuff overall.

Cast, characters and writing

Blake Lively

The only role I actually like is Serena. She is played by Blake Lively, and here performance is so much better (in my opinion) than the rest of the cast. As I said before, everything here is already seen many time before. Writing is mostly bad. A long list of trivialities revolving around kids without care in the world. Who was seen wearing this or that, eating cake and cookies and bunch of stuff like that. Role of Serena is written slightly better because we at least get to know more about her and her past.

Production

This is visually maybe the best CW production yet. It’s filmed in New York on many well known locations. Music is totally trendy and includes music from bunch of pop bands and it’s yet another thing I really don’t like.

Conclusion

The only reason I watched both seasons is role of Serena. But that might be the good reason for season 1, but in season 2 things will change for worst. Anyway, this is a show made for teenagers, and no wonder that I don’t like it. If you are still in high school, well I recommend the Gossip Girl. For everybody else, this is one to be skipped.
