After two parter ending season 3, and the death of Wilsons girlfriend Amber, House and Wilson relationship has hit the rock bottom, and Wilson decides to leave to hospital and cut House from his life. And that’s the story line in the beginning of the season 5. This time, we got full 24 episodes season and different episodes and story line structure than before, and that were not as good as the formula used in first four seasons.

Stories

First half of this season is better because stories are House-Wilson related and they involve new character, private investigator hired by House to spy on his team and Wilson. Also, very important is the episode revealing how House and Wilson met. But, then we will get involved in not so interesting and for the most part badly executed storyline involving Forman and Thirteen. Well, having many main characters is interesting, but you still need to have stories for each one of them, and in the case of this series, that is not very interesting, since the House is and should be in the center of attention. Many viewers agree that in terms of writing this is worst season of House.

House Season 5 promo

But toward the end of the season things will get better and a lot darker. With the departure of Kutner (Kal Penn started working for the White House, and his character had to go), House is slowly starting to go deeper into the addiction, culminating with Chase bachelor party and hallucinations of Amber.

Characters

As I said, writers tried to show us more of the supporting-main cast and that didn’t proved to be the best idea. But, we get to see more of the Hugh Laurie exploring House, and showing real addiction caused insanity. Also, first half and Wilson stories were great.

Hopefully, season 6 will get back on track with House centric storyline.

Conclusion

This is still excellent season, if you get over some writing problems. Anyway, season 6 has just begun, and we will see if this season will be better, and I expect just that.

Season 3 finale was really great and the unexpected turn of things has left House alone, without the team on the start of season 4. This season is shorter than usual due to the WGA strike, and only 16 episodes were produced. But, in some ways that even helped the writers to concentrate on the main storyline much more. And there is simply no bad episode in season 4. We also got several new cast members both regular and recurring.

Story

Well, House is all alone now, and during the first episode he will try to prove that he can work on his own, and that he doesn’t need the team at all. That didn’t turned out so well, and it was the time to find the new team. So, the House set up interview job — reality show with more than 30 doctors for 3 opened positions. But in the same time old team is not gone, and they will be back on different positions in the hospital. And during the first third of the season House will weed out the most of the applicants and choose 3 of them. Also, there is a very important storyline about Wilson and his new girlfriend that will culminate with dark episodes ending the season.

Characters

A biggest change in this season is much larger cast and 9 regular cast members. We will not see much Cameron or Chase, but they are still there. And the job interview story line gave as plenty new material for Hugh Laurie to further explore his House character and to bring more humor into the mix. Also, I really like the choice of actors for new team, and plot around the Anne Dudek character ‘Cutthroat Bitch’ that will be around for the most of the season.

Job Interview

It’s a shame that only 3 doctors had to stay, because some others were also great and was real fun to watch all sorts of problems House imposed on all of them.

Conclusion

This is really amazing season, and the decision to reboot the series and infuse it with fresh blood for House to play with was great. Review of much darker season 5 will be published soon.

Season 2 of House M.D. ended with the bang (watch and see) and with very interesting cliffhanger leaving much more things unknown. By the time third season started House M.D. became one of the highest rated series with very high number of viewers. The third season follows pretty much the same formula like first two seasons with two central multi episode arks in the first and second half of the season.

Story

Interesting is that writers decided to skip few months after the season 2 cliffhanger with another (yet very interesting) approach on solving that ending. First few episodes show some changes in the House (not permanent), that will offer another view at the Hugh Laurie’s character. After few initial episodes, we will get the several episodes that follow the storyline about the cop House offended, and cop’s attempts to bring him down. Cop is played by David Morse. The only bad side of this story line is that was too long, but gave as amazing conclusion.

Middle part of season was filled with many good episodes that follow the standard schema with few exceptions. But the last 4–5 episodes of the season have a new ark that will lead to another great season ending and major changes that we will get in the season 4.

Characters

As I said, this season we will see another side of Dr. House at the beginning of the season, and it will be very interesting to see him doubting himself. Other characters will also grow over this season, and that will lead to the ending I was talking about.

Season 3

I didn’t liked David Morse cop character because they intend to show another one like House, but they failed, and his character wasn’t very convincing.

Conclusion

As usual, great season of House, and a good sign of excellent things yet to come. And as the season 6 is getting closer, it’s really time to watch all the previous seasons.

Season one of House M.D. was a big success for FOX, and starting with second season, House got much more attention, very much deserved. Series got several Emmy nominations and David Shore won Emmy for best writing for episode ‘Three Stories’ that explained how the House became a cripple. For the most part, season 2 has the same structure as the first one, but with more character development and better writing.

House & co.

It’s noticeable that Hugh Laurie got much more freedom in his performance, added more humor to the character, more intelligent and witty remarks and more developed detective skills. And in the end that payed off, and he won his first Golden Globe. Supporting cast got more back stories and more character development. Younger cast members gave better performances.

Writing

Writing stuff for the series started a new longer storyline by the end of first season about House and his former girlfriend that’s now working in the hospital while here husband is in therapy. This is central storyline for the first half of the season. Writing is improved in this season, but on the other hand medicine is not as realistic, but I really don’t care much about that, I am not a doctor, and I can’t tell if the procedures are real or not. In the end none of the medical series can’t show realistic medicine, because for the most part it will be boring. So, I am not going to give any negative points for the bad medicine in some episodes.

House Season 2 Cast

Second part of the season brings another storyline that will span over several episodes involving some of the team members. And not to forget a shocking finale. All other seasons after this one will also have real cliffhangers.

Conclusion

Great season of House, and more is yet to come. I recommend you to start watching now, and catch up in time for the start of the sixth season that is only two weeks away.

I really, really hate medical dramas. Or, at least I did until House MD started airing. And yes, except for House, I still hate all other medical dramas. Before House MD, all medical dramas used essentially the same formula, they use one-dimensional approach showing the goodness and best of humanity in doctors dealing with patients, and rarely anything more than that. But, in 2004, creator David Shore changed all that with House.

Dr. Gregory House is highly intelligent doctor that know everything about the medicine, but still only human, very often wrong, but persistent. Oh, and he is also cynical, lazy, sarcastic, misanthropic, addicted to pain pills, he has a limp and no respect for authority, walks with a cane, don’t likes the patients, avoids work in the clinic. In the role of House is British actor Hugh Laurie, using excellent American English accent. He is best known for his roles in such comedies Black Adder, Jeeves And Wooster, A Bit Of Fry And Laurie and many more. And he is really amazing in the role of House.

Other Characters

House has a boss, he has a best friend and a team of young doctors working for him. Without going into to much details about them, it’s important to say that all the actors mostly do a good job. I really like Lisa Edelstein as dean of medicine and Robert Sean Leonard as Houses best friend. The team of doctors are not very experienced actors, but they do fine job as a balance to House behavior and they will get better as the series progresses.

Writing

House is sort of Sherlock Holmes of medicine, and many things show that connection including the number at the house where he lives, drug addiction and music (Hugh Laurie really plays all the instruments and is known as a skilled musician). And most of the cases are almost a detective investigations, leading through series of wrong and even bad decisions. Writers gave as a lot of character development and back stories and more is yet to come in the following seasons.

Season 1 cast

Production

Show is done extremely well, and FOX really invested a lot into the production and visual effects, location and equipment used. CG used for showing the internal organs is done good, but not always. When it comes to music, it’s good to have musician in the cast, and music is used a lot here. Music selections is mostly good, but there are some choice I didn’t like. You should try and get the soundtrack for the show with selected songs.

Conclusion

This is a must see. House is great show, and Hugh Laurie is simply amazing as House. The subtle humor, the problems and much more. Also, by the latest statistical data, House MD has the highest number of viewers in the world for TV shows. Reviews of the other seasons will follow soon. And season 6 begins on 20. september.
