For the past couple of months, there was very little happening on TVScape.NET due to other projects I am involved with. But, TVScape.NET is not dead, and new reviews are coming. I will try to push 2–3 reviews each week starting from october. Also, there is a new website that will be used as a showcase for products from the Amazon I purchased over the last couple of years. Some design changes are also coming.

Upcoming reviews include second season of Fringe, complete 10 seasons of CSI: Las Vegas, both seasons of Twin Peaks, second season of Castle, first 3 seasons of Chuck and The Big Bang Theory and only season of Flashforward. Also, I will write in depth reviews of some box sets I got recently including: Sherlock Holmes, Monthy Pythons, Fringe (Blu-Ray both seasons).

TVScape.NET website is now relocated to VPS.NET cloud hosting. Old shared hosting (BlueHost) solution was slow for a website such as this with many images and complex design, and new virtual hosting solution will allow us great deal of scalability if it’s needed to improve speed and ensure best possible user experience. New hosting is now much better optimized than old one to ensure faster response time and loading.

Preliminary testing of new hosting showed that website response time is much faster, and loading of full page is 3 or 4 times faster than on old hosting. Full page with all images and external resources now takes about 15 seconds to load with page response and initial display under 2 seconds. On old hosting full page was loading in 60 seconds on average, with initial response taking as much as 10 seconds. This is measured without use of cache on the browser side.

Browser caching is now fixed and allow browsers to store images and other files for reuse. With use of cache, loading of the website is very, very fast. If you find any problems since the change of hosting, please leave a comment to make sure the problem get’s fixed.

Couple of weeks ago website has gone through some updates and design has been altered a bit to allow more space for posts and text. But more changes are on the way, including some new and very useful and interesting features. First important update will be to improve the speed of the website, and that will be achieved by moving TVScape to new hosting server. Continue reading this post to find out more.

We are in the process of moving to new server, and next week we will test everything before the TVScape is moved to it. New server will be on VPS cloud hosting server that will allow scalability in terms of speed and performance. Current server is getting slow last few weeks with rising number of visitors, so new cloud hosting will solve all these problems.

Two new features will be added to TVScape over the next month. First will be search and recommendation page. This will allow you to filter reviews and series according to various criteria and that will allow you to find the series you would like to watch. Select one of more genres, actors and creators and you will get the list of series to match the choice.

After that, we are planning to add the forum, with discussions about series, actors, news and DVD/Blu-Ray releases of TV series. If you have anymore suggestion on what to add to the TVScape, please leave a comment.

Today is the four-month anniversary since TVScape went online. And, this 2009 is almost over, so it's a good time to go over this period, some numbers and ratings. You can see the list of the top rated series reviewed so far and for more ratings list, check the pages in the top menu, there are few. Also, first giveaway (Monty Python Almost The Truth DVD box set) is over, and you can read about results at th end of this post.

For the past 4 months we have published 145 posts. 87 of those were reviews of the series, 29 various news about TV series and 23 were DVD & Blu-Ray announcements and reviews. Reviews are from 45 different series (or mini series), and more will come in the future. Bellow you can see the list of 7 top rated series so far. List shows only series that have at least 3 reviews, making the list more accurate.

As for the giveaway, there weren't many new review comments, and the winner is s_carter. Notification has been sent to email provided by him (or her ?), and as soon as I get his address, DVD box will be sent directly from Amazon. And I expect to read short review of the box once the s_carter gets it.

This first giveaway will run for the two weeks, and will end on 23. December 2009. on the 4 month anniversary since TVScape.NET launched. Right now there are 84 series season reviews published here for over 50 different series. And while there are many comments already, that is not nearly enough. And comments for reviews are meant for your opinion about the reviews series season. With your comment review and your rating, we can get more precise picture about the series, and more accurate rating.

Monty Python: Almost The Truth

So, the only thing you need to do to participate into this giveaway is to comment on published reviews, express your own opinion about reviewed season and give a rating. You don’t need to be registered to comment or to participate in the giveaway, so everyone can get a chance to win this DVD. Add as many comments as you want, and as many as you can, because as many comments you have, more the chance to win. But, don’t comment just for comments sake, tell us what you think about the season reviews. All pointless comments will be deleted.

So, comment on the reviews and add your ratings, be objective and let other visitors to learn more about the series and their individual seasons. On 23. december 2009, I will announce the best participations and the winner of the DVD box set. The winner will get his DVD directly from Amazon.

With couple of days before the Halloween, here is another design for TVScape with new colors and great header designed by Peexon Designs. On top of that, there are many changes on the website in the last few days: various bugs fixed, many improvements to SEO including various optimizations and finally open comments for both users and visitors including commenting and rating for all reviews as well as regular posts.

All previous reviews comments are still open, even for the oldest posts, so check them out and leave your comment and rating for those reviews. Comments activity will be used in the upcoming giveaways. Giveaways are in planning stages, but they will include T-Shirts and TV series DVD’s. Registration is no longer required for comments.

TVScape Facebook page is now active, so if you use Facebook, click on the button on the right and become a fan of TVScape.

TVScape is now a month and a half old, and during September, many new things are added, many things tweaked and fixed and many more new themes and headers are added. There were many problems with some of the SEO aspects, that are now all solved. Still, few more loose ends remain, and will be fixed soon. For each post I have added plugin for Google Translation support that can translate post into 40 languages.

September Part One

During the first half of September, 6 more themes and backgrounds are added to the website. This includes: Californication (reviews will be coming very soon), Weeds, Band Of Brothers (amazing mini series, will be reviewed soon), Life, Dexter and Fringe.

September Part Two

Second part of September, and another 6 themes added: The Big Bang Theory (amazing sitcom, reviews will be added in november), Secret Diary Of A Call Girl (I still need to watch this series, but it’s looking good), House MD, Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe.

The number of posts during october will be increased to at least 2 a day with more news and more DVD & BluRay reviews.

It’s now exactly a week since TVScape is officially opened. During this time a number of new reviews are added, many small bugs fixed all over the website, many things are updated. Images of creators and actors are added and three new themes for you to choose. To keep things fresh, selected theme will be auto saved for a week, after that you can pick another one. Several new themes will be added each week.

As you can see, three new themes are for Battlestar Galactica, Arrested Development and Heroes. For next week I will prepare more interesting themes. South Park is already done, and more than 20 are in development.

New Themes

Most of the actors and creators now have images added, and this will make easier navigating. Many minor bugs are fixed, and some of the rendering elements are changed. At this point search engines are still not indexed the whole website, but I expect that in the next few days.

Next week I plan to add at least 10 new reviews. News posts will depend on the news. Suggestions are always welcome.

After a month in development, TVScape.NET is finally ready, and now officially open. At this moment there are 12 reviews already published, one news related post and one with announcements of upcoming DVD and BluRay releases. Some minor features are still missing, but with the increased number of visitors and comments I will add few more widgets, and tweak some things. So, here is what you can find here.

First you can check already existing reviews. You can filter reviews using main menu, or you can use navigator and search pages. You can browse reviews by series, actors, creators and other criteria. So far there are 12 reviews of the seasons from 11 different series. There will be 3–4 new reviews every week, with one post of upcoming releases and posts with various TV related news.

Top level menu shows the navigator and rating pages. You can see reviews based ratings and ratings aggregated for series, TV stations and countries producing the shows. These ratings are based on the post reviews, but I will add user based ratings top lists once the comments with reviews are posted. To add comments on review posts you need to be registered and logged in. Visitor (not logged in) can always comment on all other non-review posts.

I have thought on creating TVScape.NET website (maybe not under the same name) for over a year now. And now that the site finally goes live, maybe it’s a good idea to go over some of the reasons I wanted this website, and why such website is needed.

My idea is basically to write reviews on TV shows. But I don’t think that is fair to rate full series with a single post, so I will write reviews for each season. Many TV shows quality varies from season to season and it’s not fair to put all seasons in a single review. Reviewing each episode will be too much and in many cases unnecessary, because you don’t watch TV show for a single episode, at least I don’t.

I really like watching TV shows, in recent years much more than movies. And many people ask me for advice on what shows are worth watching. And it would be much easier if I could recommend a websites with TV Shows reviews. And there is nothing like that, at least I wasn’t able to find one. There are many websites that have lists of shows, episodes and all kinds of information, but no real reviews and ratings, nothing to recommend you what to watch.

So, here we are, TVScape will offer you rated reviews for many TV shows, all reviews will be season based and will include rating by the review author (for now just me), some basic data about the season and will allow for website users to make comments on the show and give their own short reviews and rating. Commenter’s ratings will be aggregated and shown along with the author ratings. So, this will help readers to get clear picture on the shows quality. Data will be aggregated by actors, production countries, broadcast TV stations, show creators and other things.. To spice things up, website will feature relevant TV news (again picked by me).

As the design goes, plan is to add new one every few weeks. Basic layout will be the same, but some colors and header will be changed. First layout is dedicated to my favorite TV show called Farscape, and this show also inspired the website name. Right now website features Firefly and The West Wing shows. Whatever you set as the theme will be stored in cookie for other website pages you visit.
