Ever since Farscape The Complete Series Box Set was released back in November of last year, it was instant hit and one of the top sellers on Amazon. And, once again, Amazon offers 60% discount for the whole box for a limited time. As I have already said in my previous posts, this is really a great set not only for Farscape fans because it contains tons of bonus material, but to all who want to see Farscape for the first time.

Hercules: The Legendary Journeys is fantasy genre series premiered in 1995 and lasted for 6 seasons, with Kevin Sorbo starring as Hercules. In the same time, Xena: Warrior Princess premiered also in 1995 and also had 6 seasons, with Lucy Lawless starring as Xena. And a while back both series were available on DVD’s, but for some time they are out of print. Finally, both are being re-released this year by Universal.

Hercules, first season has 13 episodes and will be available in the boxed set with 3DVD’s. Currently, there is no information on special features. Xena, however, has 24 episodes in the season one, and will be packed in 5DVD’s boxed set. No special features are yet announced by Universal. Both sets will be released on april 20 2010 for US market. Hercules is already available in the Australia.

Right now, both boxes are already available for preorder on Amazon. All other seasons will follow, and it’s expected that at least 2 more sets of each series will be released in 2010, with rest following next year.

Monty Python’s Flying Circus is formed some 40 years ago. As Time Goes By is a classic British comedy series, much different from romantic comedy series typical for US production. Series had 9 seasons and run from 1992 to 2005 and had 67 episodes, created by Colin Bostock-Smith, and had a truly stellar cast led by Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer. DVD box set was finally released in 2005 on 11 discs featuring brand new package containing all separate seasons boxes.

I really enjoyed this series, and many episodes I have seen many times. I will get around to post reviews about this show soon, but for now I really recommend that you get the series and watch it, I am sure that you will like it.

As Time Goes By

This is truly legendary series that hardly needs a long introduction. Original Twilight Zone run from 1959 to 1964 and features 156 episodes. Twilight Zone is created by Rod Serling who also narrated all episodes. Stories for many of the Twilight Zone episodes were written by famous writers including: Richard Matheson, Jerry Sohl, George Clayton Johnson, Jr., Reginald Rose, Harlan Ellison and Ray Bradbury.

The Definitive Collection was released in 2002 on 28 DVD’s. And even for the show so old, there are many bonus features included:

This show is on my list of the shows to watch, but I still didn’t had time for it. I don’t know much about it, but all reviews I have read were great and this looks like one of the great HBO shows. The Wire is a police drama set in Baltimore, created by David Simon and starring Dominic West, John Doman, Idris Elba, Frankie Faison and many others. The Wire had five seasons with total of 60 episodes and run from 2002 to 2008.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find much info about the exact content of this box set, except that comes on 23 DVD’s and some of the bonuses are gag reel, 3 prequel featurettes, audio commentaries by cast and crew. And, as you can see from the image bellow, box set looks really great.

The Wire Box Set

Here is the ultimate collection of Star Trek series made in the eighties and nineties. I am not a fan of the original series, and no matter how legendary that series is I just can’t watch it, and I tried many times. But, I really like all the other 4 series, so here are: Star Trek The Next Generation, Star Trek Deep Space 9, Star Trek Voyager and Star Trek Enterprise. All four sets are really massive and worth every dollar.

Star Trek: The Next Generation had 176 episodes in 7 seasons featuring Patrick Stewart as captain Pickard. Series used latest in special effects at the time, and really looked good. Star Trek: Deep Space 9 was a different type of Star Trek mostly because it was set in the station. But, this one had most complex story that span over almost entire seven seasons. Star Trek: Voyager once again was a new and different because the Voyager gets lost in the delta quadrant. This is ultimate Borg series with legendary Seven of Nine Borg as part of the crew (amazing Jeri Ryan). And the last Star Trek: Enterprise with only 4 seasons made was again a bit different, and I really liked it. But most of the Star Trek fans didn’t, so this show is considered a failure, even it was quite good.

This is one of the series I couldn’t really start watching at all, and I have tried several times.  But, nevertheless, this is definitively series worth watching, even if it’s not for everyone. It’s dark and morbid, but I guess there is no other way of dealing with mortuary business. Michael C. Hall and Peter Krause star in this series that run for 5 seasons and had total of 63 episodes in the period from 2001 to 2005. So, here are DVD box sets.

There are two editions of basically the same box set. One is regular, and the other is in deluxe gift package. Both are packed with many additional features that include audio commentaries,  featurettes, previews, deleted scenes and more.

The Sopranos is one in the long line of excellent and very successful series made by HBO over the last 10 years. Series ended two years ago with 6 seasons and 86 episodes in total, and so far there are 2 complete series DVD box sets. As the Blu-Ray goes, so far only season 1 has been released, but all the other are expected in HD during next year. I must admit that I have yet to see the whole series, and I will try to review it soon.

Previously available box sets of Rome are available as separate seasons, and now finally both are available on both DVD and Blu-Ray in the brand new box sets released today. Beside the all 22 episodes of the series, box sets contain many bonus features. Not all of them are available in HD, and so, Blu-Ray edition contains partially standard definition bonus features. Blu-Ray transfer is done very good, considering that this is TV series and not film. And it’s a worth upgrade to watch the Rome in full HD. Some of the bonus features were shot in standard definition, and are not transfered to HD for Blu-Ray. but they still look good.

Farscape premiered in 1999 and many different DVD releases were released including individual season, season boxes, famous starburst editions and box sets. Despite short life of Monty Pythons, all members of the troupe were very productive over the years. And John Cleese maybe the most productive of all. So, in the eighties, John created and starred in the two season series called Fawlty Towers, and he plays a small hotel owner. His wife at the time Connie Booth stars also, and plays the maid in the hotel. Now, the series is remastered and available in brand new box set.

This is really great series, very funny, showing John Cleese at his best, and at times remind of the old Monty Python sketches. Highly recommended.

Friends is one of the longest running sitcoms that was very popular back in the nineties. It had ten seasons and 236 episodes, with story revolving around 6 friends. Series is created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman, and Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer are the stars of the show. The Complete Series Collection box set is released in 2006 on 40 DVD discs.

Amazon is currently selling this amazing box set with 50% discount, and from $300,00 regular price, you can get the set for only $150. All included seasons contain extras like: bloopers, documentaries, behind the scenes and interviews.

Pushing Daisies is one of the best series in this decade, and yet due to low ratings series is canceled after second season. So, now you can get the whole series on both DVD and Blu-Ray. Series is created by Bryan Fuller and produced by the Warner Bros. Television and premiered on ABC. Still, there were some news that maybe some other network is interested in continuing the Pushing Daisies beyond current two seasons.

Both seasons can be get in one boxed set, and as separate sets. First season is on 3 DVD discs or on 3 Blu-Ray discs. Second season is on 4 DVD discs or 2 Blu-Ray discs. Both sets are released with number of special features and that includes interviews, behind the scenes and few short featurettes.Unfortunately there are no commentaries for episodes or some longer supplements, but episodes are great on their own, and you will not notice that there are no many more extras included.

Anyway, this is one of the shows not to be missed, and I will be publishing reviews of both seasons as soon as I complete watching season 2.

Without the doubt, Star Trek: The Original Series is one of the most important sci-fi TV shows ever created. It first aired way back in 1966 (premiered on NBC), lasted for 3 seasons and had total of 79 episodes. In 1999, they were all released on DVD for the first time, and since then CBS have restored and digitally remastered the entire series in HD. They syndicated it in 2006 with intention of releasing it on HD-DVD and BluRay.

Season one of the remastered show was released on HD-DVD in 2008, but since than Toshiba pulled the plug on that format, so the other to seasons had to wait. But now, all seasons are being released on BluRay. First two are already released, and season 3 is coming in december. In 2008 all three remastered seasons were released on DVD.

All episodes were restored and than all special effects were redone and replaced by CGI. This includes all space shoots of ships, planets and so on. Many scenes are changed and enhanced, and even they added new actors to the scenes. But many fans didn’t liked the changes done to the series, but it definitively looks much better then the originals. Box sets include bonus features, interviews and more.

Season 2 of Legend of the Seeker will premiere with 2 hour event on November 7th 2009. And in the meantime DVD set of the first season has been released and is available on Amazon. The second season will feature few more recurring cast and one more regular. Tabrett Bethell is joining as a regular in the role of Mord’Sith Cara. Charisma Carpenter and Jolene Blalock will be joining in recurring roles. Until then, here are DVD’s.

Few months back, it was announced that Futurama with all original voice actors will be back on TV, in standard series form in 2010. And today, a new special box set with all 4 seasons and all 4 movies has been released and available in an interesting package and all DVD’s are stored in a model of Bender’s head. Futurama is created by Matt Groening, who is also creator of another legendary animated series The Simpsons.

Futurama The Complete Collection is 19 DVD’s set that contains the same editions of all seasons and movies as previously released, and they include massive collection of bonus features: featurettes, commentaries, behind the scenes, interviews, deleted scenes and much more.

Season 7 of Stargate SG-1 ended with the discovery of Atlantis outpost, and after that a new series was created set in another galaxy, in the city of the ancients Atlantis, under the name of Stargate Atlantis. Series had 5 seasons with total of 100 episodes. While the series was good, it was nowhere near the quality of original SG-1, and that was the reason for lower ratings and ultimately cancellation after only five seasons.

SGA Box Set

Now, for the first time, complete series is available in the boxed set with all 5 season with great packaging. Box set is not the same for US and Europe, and US version is with special white collectible box.

SGA Main Box

Box set contains 26 DVD’s with all 100 episodes. There are not many changes from the original seasons sets, and there are no bonuses included. The only bonus DVD contains the preview and announcement for new Stargate Universe.

BluRay version of the set is still in development, and it’s surprising that it hasn’t been released yet because all seasons are filmed in HD and were aired in HD. Hopefully BluRay version will be released soon. Until than, MGM has released a single BluRay disc with full feature and extended episode Rising.

Box Set has been released in US on october 6 with sticker price of $259.98, but on Amazon is available with 42% discount for $152.99.

BluRay with episode Rising is called Stargate Atlantis Viewers Choice and is available for $19.99.

So make your choice and preorder Dharma set or regular box sets. All these editions will be released on december 5. Also, season 6 will start from february 3 2010.

It was expected to see blu-ray releases of South Park, and it all started with the season 12 released back in march. Now this collection is expanded with the first (and only) full feature movie South Park: Bigger Longer Uncut. Also, there are announcements about whole series to be released on the new medium. Season 13 will be finished before the end of the year, and will be also released on blu-ray. I expect more seasons to follow.

All South Park episodes are animated using computers, so basically, for HD output, episode needs to be rendered for the higher quality output required for Blu-Ray. Also, some scenes are changes due to differences in the screen composition.

Season 12 of South Park is released on 3 Blu-Ray discs. All episodes look really amazing, and the show really benefits for the high resolution animation. If you had a chance to watch this season on TV, you will notice that there are many differences in some scenes that are caused by different rendering used for higher quality HD version.

Bigger Longer Uncut was already rendered in higher quality for the big screen, but still it looks even better in HD. I must admit that this is not amongst my favorite South Park moments, but it’s still very entertaining movie.

As for the rest of the series, preparing the HD version will require to re-render each episode. And for this level of animation, that shouldn’t take much time. Still, it’s realistic to expect maximum 2–3 seasons next year. Season 13 is already prepared in HD for the TV broadcast.

Black Adder is one of the best comedy series ever created for television, and it’s a shame that only four seasons and 3 specials are made so far. It would be nice to get more, but that’s now highly unlikely. Anyway, now that the show can be called complete, BBC has released new, remastered box set that includes everything you need to see as the Black Adder goes in excellent designed box set package on 6 DVD discs.

Each season is on a single DVD, and all the episodes are digitally remastered from the original video source. Also, some of the episodes got the audio commentary from Rowan Atkinson, Stephen Fry, Ben Elton, Richard Curtis, Tony Robinson, Tim McInnerny.

Black Adder Remastered

Disc 5 contains all 3 specials:

1. Blackadder: The Cavalier Years
2. Blackadder’s Christmas Carol
3. Blackadder: Back and Forth

They are also remastered and with commentaries. I will soon publish missing review of all 3 specials in the series. As for the reviews of all 4 seasons you can see them here.

Disc 6 contains a whole new set of extras available only in this box set. This includes new documentaries including short ‘Costume Piece’. But the most important element of this DVD is the ‘Blackadder Rides Again’, a documentary marking 25 years of Blackadder. Documentary shows some behind the scenes from the filming of the season 4 and is really interesting watch for all Black Adder fans.

Disc also contains new interviews with series creators Richard Curtis and Ben Elton and series stars Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Tony Robinson and Rowan Atkinson.

Box set is released on 15.june 2009 in UK, and will be available in US on 20.october 2009. Amazon is offering special preorder price for the US version. This is really the ultimate collection, but with one (not so important) elements missing: unaired pilot with another actor in the role of Boldrick. Unaired episode is mostly the same as the season one first episode.

Anyway, this is a real treat for all fans of the series, and is not to be missed.

This time I will present several box sets for some of the classic sitcoms. They have 8 to 10 seasons and some of them come with interesting packages to store all season boxes. Sitcoms in this posts are: King Of Queens, Everybody Loves Raymond, Seinfeld, Frasier, Friends and Cheers. They are classic in terms of quality, not the age, and all of them have completed airing in the last few years.

The King of Queens

This sitcom aired between 1998 and 2007, with full 9 season and 207 episodes. This series comes in interesting truck like package with each season packed in the track, and more extras in the front of the truck. Extras include interviews, bonus episodes, gag reels, trailers and more.

Seinfeld

With 9 seasons and 180 episodes aired from 1989 to 1998 and was a sitcom ‘about nothing’. Seinfeld box sets for each season is packed with extras including extended and alternative episodes, interviews, bloopers, commentaries and much more. This is really a great sitcom and a definitive must watch.

Everybody Loves Raymond

Another long sitcom with 210 episodes in 9 seasons from 1995 to 2006. On 44 discs you will find all episodes and many bonuses: audio commentaries, deleted scenes, documentaries, outtakes and specials. Box sets are packed in the house shaped box.

Friends

One of the longest sitcoms ever, Friends had 10 seasons and 236 episodes aired from 1994 to 2004. This box set includes many extras typical for such large box set. This is essential sitcom to watch and own.

Fraiser

Another very long sitcom with 11 season as 264 episodes aired from 1993 to 2004. I didn’t watch this one yet, but I plan to. Not all season boxes have extensive extras due to the age of the series, but there are still many interesting things included with the episodes.

Cheers

Another very long sitcom, 11 seasons and 275 episodes aired from 1982 to 1993. First half of this show is amazing, but due to some changes in cast, later seasons were not that good, but still will give you laughs. Again, old series and not many extras included.

And while many TV series are finally returning with season premiers this month, many of them will also get DVD and Blu-Ray releases during September. This time I will introduce several most interesting releases on Blu-Ray that will be released soon. Series to get Blu-Ray for the previous season: C.S.I., Supernatural, My Name Is Earl, Heroes, How I Met Your Mother, Fringe and Scrubs. My Name Is Earl is only one that is now ended.

C.S.I.: Season 9

Now legendary series, the original Crime Scene Investigation series by CBS is soon to start 10th season and previous is coming to DVD and Blu-Ray this week. It will contain 6 BD discs, some episodes with commentary tracks and several featurettes about making of the series.

My Name Is Earl: Season 4

This series produced two amazing seasons, but lost a lot in terms of quality in seasons 3 and 4. Anyway, it’s now canceled. Supernatural: Season 4

Excellent horror series will soon start fifth and as announced last season, and previous is now coming to Blu-Ray. It will contain 4 discs with all 22 episodes and some extras. I will soon post reviews of the first two seasons of this very entertaining series.

Heroes: Season 3

Heroes was amazing show in it’s first season (review coming soon), and has lost a lot of it’s quality in the next two seasons. But, the signs of improving are present in the third season that is now available on 6 BD discs with many extras including BD Live, behind the scenes, deleted scenes and many more extras.

How I Met Your Mother: Season 4

Very interesting sitcom will soon start 5th season. Blu-Ray box will have 3 discs with all episodes and some extras. I will publish reviews of this show in the next few weeks.

Fringe: Season 1

This is one of the most anticipated series this Fall. Review of the first season is posted here. Second half of the season 1 was very promising and the story will continue in two weeks. 5 discs will contain all episodes from first season and many extras including the making of, few specials, behind the scenes and more.

Scrubs: Season 8

Scrubs is very unusual series and is expected to reinvent itself in the upcoming season 9. Previous season was quite good, and now will be available on Blu-Ray.

Once a week I will publish what’s coming new to both DVD and BluRay. For each item I will include some basic data like number of discs, interesting content and small review. This week I present to you The Simpsons: Season 12 DVD, Dexter: Season 3 DVD & BluRay, Dirty Sexy Money: Season 2 DVD, House MD: Season 5 DVD and Greek: Season 3 DVD. These announcements can be expected every sunday for the upcoming week.

Greek: Season 3

Greek is an interesting show about group of students on a university inside the greek system of houses. Season 3 comes on 3 DVD’s and doesn’t contain any significant extras. Review of the first season will come soon.

Dirty Sexy Money: Season 2

I still have to watch this second (and final season), but I really enjoyed first. Review of the Season 1 will be published next week. As for season 2 DVD’s, all 13 episodes are on 3 DVD and a few small featurettes are included as bonus.

House MD: Season 5

House MD is one of my favorite shows of all time. Very soon, season 6 will begin and it’s a right time for getting season 5 on DVD. Season 5 is a bit darker than earlier seasons, but still equally great. All 24 episodes are on 5 DVD’s with surround AC3 sound. Also, you might wanna check 26 DVD box set with all 5 seasons of House MD. In september you can expect review of all 5 seasons of this amazing show.

Dexter: Season 3

Another excellent show that will soon start it’s fourth season. Review of seasons 1 and 2 are coming soon. As for the season 3 DVD (4 discs)  and BluRay (3 discs) boxes they don’t contain many extras. But, BluRay has BDLive feature that will allow you to access many extras from the official website.

The Simpsons: Season 12

This is a show that needs no introduction. It will soon start 21 season, and now you can get season 12 on DVD’s. All DVD releases of Simpsons feature many bonuses, featurettes, commentaries and deleted scenes. I plan to start reviewing early season of The Simpsons in the next few weeks.
