SyFy (former SciFi) is very well known for bad TV movies and bad mini series. There are few exceptions, but overall this is a rule. And this 4 part mini series, 5ive Days To Midnight is just above the average bad quality of their productions. It has very good idea behind it, and even manages to hold the story for some time, but in the end they managed to kill it. Casting is good overall, but this can’t save the bad production.

Story

Series is based on the time paradox and warning from the future that should save our main character and potentially destroy the universe due to the paradox itself. It’s very, very hard to make any coherent and logical story from anything that involves time travel, and movies ant TV series rarely succeed in that. 5ive days manages to create so-so story that works in the first two parts (ir days as they refer it as), but once they involve physics and almost crazy character who points to possibility that universe will end if they even try to prevent the events, things go downhill. But, the real problem is the ending that is just bad, and worst cliché.

Cast & Characters

Cast is really good. Timothy Hutton is good in the role our hero J.T. Neumeyer who is trying to prevent his own death using material sent from the future. I also really liked the character of his girlfriend Claudia (played by beautiful Kari Matchett), but that’s really all as the character goes. Randy Quaid role of the detective is both good and bad, and turns out to be the worst written character of the series.

Conclusion

I was hopeful with the first two parts, and was hooked up on the story and some characters. But as the episodes go on, and on, things were getting bad, and ended really bad. So, no wonder you see just a low average rating. Anyway, it’s almost interesting watch, so give it a try, you might like it.
