ABCThis is very interesting series, so much different than any other crime and cops procedurals we see on any channel in any given year. Spies, secret agents, double agents with many elements of fiction and fantasy, mystery and adventures. Alias is made by famous J.J. Abrams (Felicty, Lost, Fringe) for ABC television. Alias is story about network of secret organizations, recruiting agents under the false cover, posing as the CIA.
Characters
As you usually have, hero of the series is young and pretty much indestructible Sydney Bristow (played by Jennifer Garner), working for SD-6, a secret organization she believes is a part of CIA. And, maybe J.J. Abrams went to far in creating her character because she is almost a Wonder Woman (except for flying); she looks gorgeus, is very smart and intelligent, weapons and martial arts specialist, speaks all (and I mean all) languages. And she is a double agent. Her father, Jack, also a double agent is played by Victor Gerber and he is serious, unpredictable and short on words, agent very hard to read, but always there to help his daughter. Director of SD-6 branch, and their boss is Arvin Sloane, played by Ron Rifkin who is the source of the major story line in Alias, about artifacts and knowledge of one Milo Rambaldi.
Story
While main story is made around a new case each week, there are several story lines going through many episodes, or even the whole series. Main and longest story line is revolving around Milo Rambaldi, an inventor and mystic, renaissance genius, very similar to Leonardo De Vinci. Milo’s last name is homage to Carlo Rambaldi, who worked on special effects on many movies including Oscar winning E.T. And the whole Milo story is the reason for this series to be labeled as mystery and sci-fi.
Production
First season premiered in 2001, and was very successful, generating big ratings. Also, series won many prestigious awards including Golden Globe and Saturn Awards. And, as usual for a J.J. Abrams production, music is composed by great Michael Giacchino.
Conclusion
I really liked this season, and I was intrigued by the complex story that involved prophesies and ancient secrets, mixed with the futuristic technology. I recommend that you watch Alias is you missed it until now. It’s real fun.
