Despite often referred as a sitcom series, Arrested Development is not sitcom. This is one of the best comedy series ever created on US televisions, even if it was a short lived with only 3 seasons, and potentially a movie that is now reported in development, and announced for the next year. Despite the quality, series proved to be complicated and most main characters were not like-able so it had only moderate ratings during original run.

Arrested Development is created my Mitchell Hurwitz, based on original idea from Ron Howard, who narrated the whole series. And narration is used to drive the story and also explain on many back references and rather complicated story and many relationship between many characters.

Story

Story is about the rich Bluth family and their company. At the start of the first season, George Bluth got arrested for on the number of charges for fraud and spending company money. His oldest son Michael decides to leave with his son and distance himself from the family, but that proves more complicated than he though at first. Micheal and his son George Michael live in the model home that Bluth company built. And due to the arrest and company money getting frozen, Michael’s twin sister Lindsay and her husband Tobias and their daughter Maeby are moved in with them.

Arrested Development

This is one wacky family. Michael (played by Jason Bateman) is the only one hard working in the family and tries to teach his son to be good and hard working also. George Michael is mostly clueless and confused boy and Michael Cera is really excellent in the role. The rest of the family is also great, and my favorite is definitively George Bluth played by Jeffrey Tambor. But, one of the problem series had to attract wider audience was the fact that characters weren’t like able but that was actually a point of showing the dysfunctional family.

Production

Series is filmed using constantly moving or in the face camera, with almost documentary style of filming, and that gave the series very original and interesting look.

Conclusion

Amazing comedy, intelligent and really funny. It takes some time for the series to grown on viewers, and it can get complicated even with narrator leading you through the story, but this is the show that you really need to see.
