SyFyCliffhanger of the season 3 of Farscape has left John Crichton all alone, and that’s exactly how we find him at the start of new season aboard the old and dying leviathan few months later. He is finally getting close to the secrets of wormholes and he has a long beard. This season has more improvements in the production department and it’s a real shame Sci-Fi didn’t want to invest money in fifth and as planned final season.
There are some changes in the cast for this season. Jool played by Tammy McIntosh is only in the couple of episodes, but instead of her, in the first episode of the season we are introduced to Sikozu Svala Shanti Sugaysi Shanu played by Raelee Hill. She belongs to the race called Kalish, and she is a leviathan expert. Kalish are important for the story development as they are part of Scarran empire. Also a old woman seen at the end of season 3, Utu Noranti Pralatong is now a regular and played by Melissa Jaffer.
Story
Episodes of these season will be more focused on the main storyline. Also, there will be some major changes in some of the characters that will again prove that good and evil in Farscape are not simply black and white. There is no bad episode this season, and we will see resolve of the D’Argo imprisonment reasons, Earth, heart of the Scarran empire and many more things. In terms of writing this is the best season with a lot of humor, with many more funny John’s pop references, real fun to watch. We will get to see a darker side of Aeryn Sun, and Claudia Black will miss first few episodes of the season due to her pregnancy. We will get to learn the secret of Scarran power and much, much more.
Production
This season is best in the series. Special effects are excellent, music also, and this is the first season shot in widescreen 16:9 and first with Dolby surround 5.1 sound. Season was very expensive and in the end that caused the cancellation. Instead of the season 5 will get a TV movie to complete the story.
Conclusion
Farscape is absolutely amazing series, and this last season is great proof of that. I have seen it few times now, and I am always amazed by it. So, grab the DVD’s or try to catch reruns and see for yourself.
