Cliffhanger of the sea­son 3 of Farscape has left John Crich­ton all alone, and that’s exactly how we find him at the start of new sea­son aboard the old and dying leviathan few months later. He is finally get­ting close to the secrets of worm­holes and he has a long beard. This sea­son has more improve­ments in the pro­duc­tion depart­ment and it’s a real shame Sci-​Fi didn’t want to invest money in fifth and as planned final season.

There are some changes in the cast for this sea­son. Jool played by Tammy McIn­tosh is only in the cou­ple of episodes, but instead of her, in the first episode of the sea­son we are intro­duced to Sikozu Svala Shanti Sug­aysi Shanu played by Raelee Hill. She belongs to the race called Kalish, and she is a leviathan expert. Kalish are impor­tant for the story devel­op­ment as they are part of Scar­ran empire. Also a old woman seen at the end of sea­son 3, Utu Noranti Prala­tong is now a reg­u­lar and played by Melissa Jaffer.

John and Sikozu

Story

Episodes of these sea­son will be more focused on the main sto­ry­line. Also, there will be some major changes in some of the char­ac­ters that will again prove that good and evil in Farscape are not sim­ply black and white. There is no bad episode this sea­son, and we will see resolve of the D’Argo impris­on­ment rea­sons, Earth, heart of the Scar­ran empire and many more things. In terms of writ­ing this is the best sea­son with a lot of humor, with many more funny John’s pop ref­er­ences, real fun to watch. We will get to see a darker side of Aeryn Sun, and Clau­dia Black will miss first few episodes of the sea­son due to her preg­nancy. We will get to learn the secret of Scar­ran power and much, much more.

Pro­duc­tion

This sea­son is best in the series. Spe­cial effects are excel­lent, music also, and this is the first sea­son shot in widescreen 16:9 and first with Dolby sur­round 5.1 sound. Sea­son was very expen­sive and in the end that caused the can­cel­la­tion. Instead of the sea­son 5 will get a TV movie to com­plete the story.

Con­clu­sion

Farscape is absolutely amaz­ing series, and this last sea­son is great proof of that. I have seen it few times now, and I am always amazed by it. So, grab the DVD’s or try to catch reruns and see for yourself.
