SyFyHere is the series about amazing story of the city that people are searching for years. SG-1 creators had not difficult time to imagine the lost city of Atlantis. With current technology and computer animation they created this city. This is very different story about Atlantis built on the the basic mythology created for Stargate SG-1. Brad Wright (creator of SG-1) and Robert C. Cooper are responsible for, this, another SG series.
Story & Writing
Again, series is recorder in Canada in the same studio as the SG-1. The story of Atlantis starts back with SG-1 series and discoveries made in Antarctic. All missing pieces for completing the circle are found there, and Dr. Daniel Jackson has found the location of the Lost City of the Ancients, and the Stargate Command decided to send the expedition. One very pleasant change is that head of the expedition is a civilian and a woman.
Dr. Elizabeth Weir is the expedition leader and she was played by great acress Torri Higginson. Another refreshing character is Dr. Rodney McKay (played by David Hewlett), egocentric astrophysicist and genius without sense of humor. John Sheppard (played by Joe Flanigan) is a leading a mission Athosian planet where they meet Teyla Emmagen (Rachel Luttrell). She joins them in the fight against the new enemy called Wraith. Wraiths are feeding on human life energy and literally sucking them dry. And they were a sleep for centuries. And waking up of this sci-fi vampires version was actually done by the new comers from Earth.
Production
Lost city was supposed to be located in Antarctic, but to distinguish themselves from already successful SG-1, decision was made to move it into Pegasus Galaxy. So, new adversaries are created in form of Wraiths with very interesting and scary look. Visually, series looks great with new and interesting sets and amazing design of the city.
Conclusion
SGA didn’t offered too much new from SG-1, aside from new enemies and different cast. After 7 season of SG-1, every change is good and the bad in the same time. Anyway, this is worth a watch.
