BBCWay back in the 14th century Geoffrey Chaucer has written Canterbury Tales. This was a collection of stories some in prose and some in verse. During last hundred years many there were many movie adaptations of this classic work, but this mini series by BBC from 2003 is the first series adaptation. This mini series is made up from 6 stories all adapted to modern setting. And for the most part this is really a great collection.
Stories
This is the list of stories with actors:
- The Miller’s Tale: with James Nesbitt, Dennis Waterman, and Billie Piper.
- The Wife of Bath: with Julie Walters, Bill Nighy and Paul Nicholls.
- The Knight’s Tale: with John Simm, Keeley Hawes, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
- The Sea Captain’s Tale: with Om Puri and Indira Varma.
- The Pardoner’s Tale: with Jonny Lee Miller.
- The Man of Law’s Tale: with Andrew Lincoln and Nikki Amuka-Bird.
First story is really great, and James Nesbitt is great as usual this time as devil like conman, and we see the first appearance on TV of beautiful Billie Piper as a young and naive karaoke singer. I didn’t really likeed second story but I can’t deny excellent performance by Julie Walters. The Knight’s Tale is maybe the best episodes in the series, and all 3 stars in this episode gave really great performances.
The Sea Captain’s Tale is a good story, followed by another story I didn’t like with Johnny Lee Miller. Last story called Man of Law’s Tale is also really good and stars to me unknown actors.
Conclusion
Overall very nice series with excellent cast. Maybe not all of the stories are excellent, but maybe you will find some other stories better than I did. This is another good production from BBC, and I recommend that you watch it when you get a chance.
