SyFy mini series and original movies are usually bad, with few exceptions, and at first, I didn’t expected much from The Triangle, despite the names behind it. To be honest, the only reason I have watched this episode was the name of the Rockne S. O’Bannon (mastermind behind my favorite TV series Farscape). And, as it turns out, this is really good mini series, not without flaws, but still very enjoyable and entertaining.

Production

Series is created by Brian Singer (House M.D., X-Man movies, Superman Returns, The Usual Suspects, Apt Pupil) and Dean Devlin (Leverage) along with Rockne. Series is very expensive, with many special effects shot and it had very high ratings for premiere airing, with over 4 million viewers, and it remains one of the highest rated mini series SyFy ever made.

Story

Core of the story is the mystery behind the Bermuda Triangle, but this time with much more original approach. And for the most part we are following two story lines that will come together at the end to solve the mystery and resolve it. One story is with only survivor of the event connected with triangle when 2 ships got lost. He is having trouble grasping reality and experiences strange things. Main story is following group of experts in different fields hired by shipping tycoon to discover the truth behind the Bermuda Triangle, for 5 million dollars each. But, the initial skepticism by all involved will soon turn into something else, and they will start to experience strange events, time shifts and ripples that all emanate from within the Triangle.

For the most part, story is good, but it feels to long at times, and many things look like fillers than actually something that story needs. Through strange events we learn about characters back-stories and the way this is done is something I really liked. Ending feels rushed. They needed dynamic ending, but this is not it. Still, final solution is good and interesting.

Cast and characters

Cast is very good, and is one of the best aspects of the series with such names as Eric Stolz, Sam Neill, Bruce Davison and beautiful Catherine Bell. I must admit that I even liked the performance of B movies star Lou Diamond Phillips. Most of the characters have predictable reactions, but this is not that important for the overall story and series is really entertaining to watch. Don’t expect some deep meaning, this is fun series with interesting take on the famous Triangle.

Conclusion

Triangle is a good mini series, much better than usual Sy-Fy works, and with good cast, high production values and interesting story is entertaining and fun to watch.
