I have always been a fan of Tim Roth, and I wondered how he will manage to pull of playing very interesting character he portrays in Lie To Me. This is a half season type of show with 13 episodes in it’s first season. This show is not to be missed, and features both great stories and excellent characters and cast. I only hope that season 2 will be expanded to a full set of 22 episodes. So, here is what you can expect if you decide to watch this show.

In the heart of the show is a story about team lead by Cal Lightman, psychologist, expert in reading people’s body language and micro expressions as a sort of lie detection test. His Lighman Group is a private agency that is hired to help in situations where regular interrogation and detection don’t give any results. In part, this show is a variation on modern police procedurals and C.S.I. like shows, but the use of psychology and focus on human condition makes this show much more interesting than many C.S.I. clones.

Also, scientific side here is very prominent, and you will see detailed explanation about the methods Dr. Lightman and his teams uses to solve the problems and crimes.

Characters

Tim Roth is absolutely brilliant. His performance is as good as you have seen in many of his movies. And the rest of the cast is up to high standards he set. Kelli Williams as Dr. Gillian Foster is my favorite character beside Lightman. In many ways her character is opposite of Dr. Lightman and brings much wormer approach to their work.

Lie to me, Lightman agency

Supporting cast had tough job of matching the leading cast performance, because they had to offer believable characters and believable body language. Getting the most of the micro expressions was also very complex task.

Writing & Production

Most of the stories in the episodes were very well written, and you will be pulled into the drama and mystery until the final solution is found and truth eventually discovered. One thing is missing, and that is more of the characters back story development, but I expect that in season 2.

From the beginning you can see the highest production standards. Visual effects that highlight the human expressions used to drive the show are excellent and you can see how the human body works and how little you can actually control when you try to hide the truth from others.

Conclusion

Watch this show! Simple as that, grab either the DVD or BluRay, or wait for the reruns on TV, but definitely you need to see this show. And season 2 stars on September 28.
